TREES looks at paintings relationship to its own history. TREES explores lineages of gesture and the recycling of mark making. The series, focusing on European landscape traditions, originated in the observation that similar brush marks recurred in paintings often made generations apart by different artists across geographical locations. TREES acknowledges the collectivity of painting and the somatic influences which are absorbed via looking and translated in the hand. TREES seek out the pores of painterly identity.
